Facilitator Profile

A fully registered charity, we take on young people (13-17 years old) who have disengaged with school and the community to give them skills, education, a sense of self worth and reconnecting them with their community. We work closely with Hawkesbury police and the incredible BackTrack Youthworks to make a real change in young people’s lives.

Each young person bonds with a dog in their first days. That partnership takes them on a journey of learning responsibility, caring for others and communicating without violence. The team then travels the country demonstrating their skills and giving them purpose and a reason to give life a serious go.

Skills attained in the program include dog training, dog sports, horticulture, landscaping, welding, aluminium fabrication, animal husbandry, leather work, wood work, driving and licence attainment, carpentry, mechanics, bushcraft, domestic skills, nutrition and physical education, effective communication, conflict resolution, building healthy relationships….. and a whole lot more!

We had Uncle Zac.. Connected really well with the kids, they were super engaged (even the ones who are usually not). Great chat about indigenous culture. Opportunities to try indigenous food, check out the tools, etc Really patient with the kids, beautiful and calm nature. Every answer was a good answer, there were no wrong answers. Great use of symbols and teaching the kids about all the different symbols and what they mean (in the bark area – drew them into the ground). Taught the children indigenous words which was awesome. Brought in aspects of sustainability and how to live off the land which the kids found interesting.

Our service had Farmer Dave come out today and delivery his "Connect to my country" Incursion, All I can say is WOW what an outstanding incursion. The 3 boys Dave, Zac and Marcus were amazing, they connected with all of the children ranging in age from 4.5yrs to 12yrs. They had all of the children engaging, they had them laughing, the children were all thrilled to be able to try the 3 foods from the land which included, Kangaroo, Crocodile, and the root from the Kurrajong tree, to making homemade damper using tidalick the dreamtime story, to the markings in the dirt - simply amazing! The children were able to take away so much knowledge and a better understanding of our country. I will be highly recommending this program to my networking colleges within our area, Farmer Dave is a credit to your group. And we look forward to having him back in the very near future. 5 star rating for this mob.
