With a growing awareness of the distinct cultural histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia each July to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Indigenous people.
Celebrations are not just held in the Indigenous communities, but for all Australians with celebrations being held in increasing numbers at government agencies, local councils, libraries and in particular, schools, vacation care, and early learning centres.
In 2018, the theme of this years NAIDOC celebration is ‘Because of her, we can’, aimed at celebrating the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made, and continue to make, to Australian communities, Australian families, as well as adding to our Nation’s rich history.
