Australian Environmental Education

A whole day of sustainable fun in this interactive and hands on workshop!

Designed to help kids understand how the way we choose to live can impact the earth.

Highlights

Morning Session

  • Have a presentation on how you can be sustainable
  • Do a sustainability audit of the school
  • Conduct some hands on experiments with water
  • Look at the journey of water from the mountains to the sea

Afternoon Session

  • Have a presentation on different groups of animals
  • Conduct fieldwork to look for evidence of animals in the school grounds
  • Learn about different animal life cycles
  • See live invertebrates
  • Make an insect hotel for the school

  • An entertaining day to develop skills and knowledge about sustainability and the environment.

Science and Technology K – 6

Skills

Students develop and apply skills in:

  • scientific inquiry through the process of working scientifically
  • design and production processes in the development of solutions

Knowledge and understanding

Students develop knowledge and understanding of:

  • the natural world including living things and Earth
  • the built environment
  • how digital technologies represent data

Human Society and its Environment HSIE

Students:

  • develop knowledge and understanding of the features and characteristics of places and environments across a range of scales
  • develop knowledge and understanding of interactions between people, places and environments

Students:

  • apply geographical tools for geographical inquiry
  • develop skills to acquire, process and communicate geographical information

Virtual Option

What is provided:

  • An interactive activity delivered via Zoom.
  • Your Zoom link and instructions on how to connect will be sent to you before your session starts.
  • Each Virtual Experience can be custom tailored for your group.

What you will need to provide:

  • Access to Zoom.
  • For large groups a big screen would be ideal, and a laptop or tablet for small groups.

For Schools

  • Suitable for all Primary stages.
  • Workshop can be structured to align with your school timetable.

Science and Technology students will develop knowledge, skills and understanding:

  • the natural world including living things, materials, forces, energy, and Earth and space.
  • the built environment including engineering principles and systems, food and fibre production, and material technologies.

Facilitator Profile

Karen Player founded Australian Environmental Education in 2019 to help parents and teachers deliver Environmental Education programs.

Australian Environmental Education offers incursions and video conferences that are hands on, interactive and designed to inspire your students about the natural world.

Karen has a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Environmental Education from Macquarie University.

Karen previously worked at the Australian Museum for over 20 years during which time she delivered high quality onsite and offsite educational programs..

In 2009, Karen began focusing on digital delivery of programs across Australian and is the co-founder of Virtual Excursion Australia.

Karen’s passion is developing and delivering Environmental Education programs.  Karen is an advocate of hands on learning and has developed a range of programs to make learning natural science easy.

Karen has developed Education programs and Learning resources for several award winning programs and exhibitions including Museum in a Box®, Museum2you and the Citizen Science Projects StreamWatch and FrogID.

Qualifications:

  • BSc Physical Geography and Environmental Science – Macquarie University.
  • Masters Environmental Education – Macquarie University.
  • Current Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurances.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • National Police Check
