Each year, NAIDOC Week offers a powerful moment for reflection, connection, and celebration. It’s a time to recognise the stories, strength, and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples — and to celebrate culture that is as old as time, yet still growing, changing, and leading today.
At Fun Day Out, we’re proud to support learning experiences that help young people connect meaningfully with First Nations culture. We believe that when children are invited to listen, explore, and create, they build a deeper understanding and respect for the land we live on and the people who have cared for it for generations.
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud,” reminds us of the power and pride carried by Indigenous communities. It also encourages us all — especially young learners — to keep culture strong by learning about it, engaging with it, and carrying its stories forward.
That’s why we offer a range of NAIDOC-themed experiences designed to bring culture to life in fun, thoughtful, and age-appropriate ways.
Children might dive into the Dreamtime story of Thurkeri & The River’s Lesson while learning about sustainability through interactive fishing games. They may explore Aboriginal art styles and symbolism in a creative session like Dreamtime Doodles, or get their hands dirty with Indigenous Clay Play — sculpting native animals using natural materials and traditional methods.
For a deeper connection to Country, our Berry Island Reserve excursion offers the chance to walk ancient tracks, see rock carvings, and learn about traditional bush tucker and tools — all in a beautiful outdoor setting.
These experiences aren’t just activities — they’re an opportunity for children to engage with culture in a way that feels real. They learn not just facts, but stories. Not just history but living culture.
This NAIDOC Week, we’re honoured to play a small part in helping young people connect, understand, and celebrate.
Let’s keep the fire burning — with curiosity, creativity, and care.
